DIOO has recently launched the PMIC DIO8018, an integrated 7-channel high-performance LDO which is specially designed to provide power supply solutions for multi-camera application scenarios such as mobile phones, tablet computers and extended reality (XR).

In one camera module, CMOS image sensors generally require three-way power supplies (Core, I/O, and Analog), and some cameras also have power supply requirements for auxiliary functions such as Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and Auto Focus (AF). A single camera module needs 3~5 channels of power supply, and the tablet computer, mobile phone, and XR require more than one camera module.

The load characteristics and requirements of the power supply differs by camera modules. There are digital circuit power supply DVDD that requires high current and fast dynamic response, and analog circuit power supply AVDD that is very sensitive to power supply noise. Different types of cameras may also require different output voltages and currents. The camera sensor power supply generally supplies the nearest components. However, the main PMIC of the platform is generally far away from the position of the camera, and it does not have enough channels to supply multiple cameras.

The use of multiple discrete LDOs is a solution, but it will occupy a large amount of PCB area, which is a huge challenge to the structural design and PCB layout of multi-camera module equipment.

The DIO8018 can not only meet the high current and fast dynamic response required by DVDD, but also meet the high PSRR and low noise required by AVDD, and also satisfies the need for an ultra-small size. It is a perfect solution for multi-camera applications.

1Typical Applications

Integrated 7-channel LDO

The DIO8018 is a PMIC with an integrated 7-channel LDO. It has a 2-channel low-dropout LDO for high-current power supply (LDO1/2 output current up to 1.5 A, can power the DVDD of a high-pixel camera) and multi-channel high-voltage power supply for noise sensitive power supply PSRR LDO power rail (Vsys to Vout of LDO3-7, PSRR can reach more than 92dB at 1KHz, which can power the AVDD of the camera).

The DIO8010 is a PMIC with an integrated 7-channel LDO. It has a 2-channel, low-dropout LDO for high-current power supplies and a multi-channel, high PSRR, LDO power rail for noise-sensitive power supplies. The LDO 1/2 has an output current of up to 1.5 A and can supply the DVDD of a high-pixel camera. The PSRR of LDO 3 to 7, which is Vsys to Vout, can reach more than 92 dB at 1kHz.

Low Dropout

DIO8018 has a very low dropout.

When LDO 1/2 outputs 1.2 V/1.5 A, the typical value of Dropout is 120 mV;

When LDO 3/4/6 outputs 2.8 V/0.3 A, the typical value of Dropout is 100 mV;

When LDO 5/7 outputs 2.8 V/0.6 A, The typical value of Dropout is 135 mV.

Multiple chip protection functions

The DIO8018 has protection functions such as under-voltage protection, over-current protection, and over-temperature protection, which can well protect the chip from being damaged during use.

1.When the output voltage of the DIO8018 drops to 20% of the set voltage (10% for LDO 1/2) for more than 100us, the interrupt INT pin will be pulled high and the LDO output will be turned off.

2.The overcurrent protection of DIO8018 can set the current limit point through I2C. When the chip is short-circuited, the DIO8018 will automatically limit the output current within the current limit point. If the DIO8018 maintains the current limit for more than 1 ms, the mid-end INT pin will be pulled high, and the LDO output will be turned off.

3.When the temperature of the DIO8018 chip rises to 115, the DIO8018 will activate the thermal warning event. When the chip temperature drops to 100, the DIO8018 will close the thermal warning event. When the chip temperature rises to 155, the DIO8018 will activate the thermal shutdown event

independent input pins

The DIO8018 has 5 independent input pins for each LDO, VIN1, 2 for LDO1 and LDO2, VIN3, 4 for LDO 3 and LDO 4, and VIN5, VIN6, and VIN7 for LDO 5, LDO 6, and LDO 7 respectively. The DIO8018 also has a separate system input, VSYS, which is the bias pin for the LDO.

Output voltage configuration through I2C

The output voltage (8mV/step) and current limiting point of each LDO of DIO8018 can be configured through I2C, and two power-on modes, auto, and individual, can be provided for users to choose from, which can successfully meet the power supply requirements of different cameras. Provides great flexibility for customer design.

In addition, DIO8018 also provides an ultra-small package WLCSP-20 (1.61 mm x 1.9 6 mm), which can save PCB area for customers' design.
